Kenya’s ambassador to South Sudan, Chris Mburu, died on Sunday, the government said adding the tragedy happened one night after he had suffered a heart attack.
Talking to journalists on Monday, the Kenya Foreign Affairs Minister stated the envoy left Nairobi on Sunday and headed back to Juba before the incident.
A message of sincere condolence and comfort has been sent to the official’s family, relatives and friends of Ambassador Chris Karumba Mburu by Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday.
“Death has robbed us of a great public servant who served his country with distinction. Since his appointment as our envoy to Juba, Mburu has worked hard to ensure the free flow of trade and investment between Kenya and South Sudan,” the President said.
He was also quoted as saying, “Kenya has lost a brilliant public servant whose star was shining bright and whose service shall be dearly missed.”
Mburu assumed the position of Kenya’s Ambassador to South Sudan after Uhuru had signed a decree in July 2018.
