Islamist militiamen carried out an attack on a gendarme base in eastern Burkina Faso in which two innocent civilians were killed earlier this week, the police officials confirmed on Wednesday. It is also known that nine assailants were shot dead by the police during the gunfight.
The terrorists hit the township of Tanwalbougou on Monday. Two civilians who were killed, along with 14 who were injured, were passengers on buses that were in the area when the attack took place, the police said.
The law enforcers managed to capture one of the assailants who was found in possession of arms, several rounds of ammunition, and cell phones.
According to official statistics, nearly 800 people were killed and more than 600,000 were forced to leave their homeland by Jihadists since the start of 2015 when extremist attacks became common and violence started to spread from neighbouring Mali.
