On Wednesday, the Zimbabwean authorities signed a peace deal with the country’s civil workers agreeing to raise their salaries.
According to the media reports, the monthly payments of such employees will be set at 133%-172% from their previous figures.
“We wish to advise our members that as the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) we have reached a provisional agreement as we continue with negotiations,” Apex Council president Mrs Cecilia Alexander announced. “In our wisdom, we agreed that let’s continue to negotiate, but at least let’s reach some point where we can say for now we sign for something, so that our members can get something to live on.”
The measure is expected to ease the outrage in the community and normalise the work of the civil services.
