Gorden Chanda, a Zanu PF Member of Parliament for Gokwe-Sesame Constituency, was arrested by the Zimbabwe Police for alleged extortion and stealing 120 bags of relief food from the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) Gokwe depot.

Besides him, the law-enforcers also nabbed Ward 13 Councillor Georgina Chirongoma who also faced similar accusations.

The duo, according to the reports, asked the community leaders in the local villages to collect approximately $65, 000 from the residents assuring them that the money would go to the construction of the Gande Clinic.

It was later revealed the facility had been funded by the Gokwe South Rural District Council.

41-year-old Chanda and 34-year-old Chirongoma had already made their brief appearance in court and were released on $1, 000 bail each.
