Jacques Nienaber has been named as the new coach of the South African national rugby team, succeeding Rassie Erasmus on this post.
The official announcement was made during a revised coaching panel on Friday.
“Jacques is highly experienced and has worked with the Springboks on three separate occasions now so knows exactly what the job is about,” Erasmus, who has recently taken the reins of South Africa’s director of rugby, explained.
47-year-old Nienaber who previously served as an assistant coach will further take the operational control of the team. However, Erasmus will not come out of the view and will further monitor the work, supporting and consulting the coaching board.
“It’s a big step-up for me in terms of carrying the day-to-day leadership role and there’ll be other adjustments but in many ways it will also be business as usual. We’ve built up a good culture over the past two years and we’ll simply be looking to extend that,” Erasmus concluded.
