South Africa’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has not registered any patients with confirmed 2019-nCoV virus, the regulator stated on Thursday.
The coronavirus outbreak is currently raging in China and has already resulted in 17 deaths while more than 600 people have been infected.
“As of 23 January, there have been no cases of the 2019-nCoV in South Africa or on the African continent,” the NICD’s statement reads.
In order to nip the virus spreading possibility in the bud, NCID and the national department of health developed a clinical guideline for the health workers that would further provide them with a set of instructions to detect and identify the new virus strain.
The screening measure in the airports and on the borders have also been amplified due to safety reasons.
