The Democratic Alliance, the opposition South African party, said it would approach the public protector to urgently resolve the situation with the rail infrastructure in the Western Cape.
The regional trains and stations have recently become one the main target for many vandals and arsonists whose actions led to numerous disruptions in the schedule and blocked the local residents from using the provincial transport system.
“Acts of vandalism, theft, and arson continue to hold thousands of commuters to ransom. It affects jobs and the economy in the metro,” DA’s Daylin Mitchell explained.
According to the DA officials, the ombudsman was investigating the police’s inability to identify the perpetrators and make arrests.
