Amid worsening power shortages and falling water levels in the Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe and Zambia are looking for workarounds to overcome the crisis.

At the moment, both countries are imposing strict load-shedding measures to ease the pressure on the dam. However, one of the main ways to solve the problem of power outages is solar power, which is gradually being put into operation by some households and companies in Harare and other cities.

It is not difficult to ensure the normal operation of farms using alternative energy, as the local shops sell small portable panels that can power mobile phones, lights and TVs.
