The Zimbabwean authorities have launched the Community Resilience Bakeries Programme at the Waterfalls Incubation Centre in Harare in a bid to promote the manufactures in the rural areas and lower the bread prices.

Vice President Kembo Mohadi says the initiative will not only help the local residents develop and implement their business ambitions but also provide the women and youth with new jobs as well as contribute to the national economy.

“Not only are these bakeries closer to our people, they are run by community members who will also generate income from the projects,” the official stated during the launch ceremony.

Mohadi further added the program should target highly marginalised areas including Dande, Kanyemba, Kazozo, Tsholotsho, Bulilima, and Binga so everyone should have relatively similar prices on bread, the food which, he said, should not be “a luxury but a nutritional necessity.”
