Ligia Dias Fonseca, the wife of Cabo Verde president Jorge Carlos Fonseca, has announced she will raise money to help the Mozambican areas still recovering from the cyclone Idai.
Fonseca who was born in the Eastern African state said the two countries had a common colonial past and would not deny assisting each other in the time of great need.
“We are not doing this for our country, but for our brothers and sisters in other countries. Every time Cabo Verde needs help, it gets it from other countries, from Portugal and the United States, from countries all over the world,” she explained.
The campaign will start on Saturday night. The show scheduled to be held in Westport, Southern Massachusetts, is expected to see many artists and musicians on the scene, including Candida Rose, Len Cabral, and Maria De Barros.
More than 1, 000 have died after Idai made landfall in Mozambique, while the local territories continue to overcome the challenges brought by the storm.
