The South African police have arrested a 13-year-old suspect for murdering 63-year-old Idah Ngcobo, a grandmother of hers.
The elder Tongaat resident was found on Monday lying in a pool of her own blood. The reports suggest the woman had been bludgeoned to death as the detectives registered several blunt traumas on her head and face.
It is alleged that Ngcobo’s granddaughter was the first to see the crime scene. The girl, according to her testimony, heard screams and rushed to the house only to see an unknown man beating Idah with a hammer.
In a dramatic twist, the law-enforcers arrested the 13-year-old the next day.
“We can confirm a 13-year-old suspect was arrested yesterday for murder. She is due to appear in the Verulam Magistrates’ court tomorrow (Thursday),” Police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele said.
Ngcobo could not defend herself as she had suffered a stroke last month and was unable to walk.
A case of murder has been opened and is now under investigation.
