Yesterday, a couple was arrested after the police had discovered a dagga lab and a large amount of weapons in their house located in Wierda Park in Centurion, Pretoria.
The SAPS officers from the Pretoria and Soshanguve K9 unit came to search the house acting on a tip off from someone who had allegedly bought drugs there. The dagga lab was found easily with enough drugs to “supply a whole village.”
“They widened their search and found hidden rooms in the house. The rooms contained several guns,” Acting Police Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi explained.
Among the recovered firearms were AK47s, R1 rifles, hand guns, rocket launchers and ammunition boxes. The 50-year-old owner of the house claimed he was an arms dealer and collector.
“Some firearms that should have been deactivated as collectors’ items were in fact not deactivated,” Motsoaledi stated. “It is worrying us, because this man can start a mini war if he wishes. Why do you keep launchers that can shoot helicopters? That is for war.”
The police also stumbled upon various military items, including uniforms. The investigation is under way.
According to Dr Motsoaledi and National Commissioner of Police General Khehla Sitole, the arms and drugs will be destroyed.
