The Livingstone Hospital where four students from the Humansdorp Senior Secondary school were admitted reported that they had been attacked by four panga-wielding suspects earlier on Friday.
According to the province police department officials, four pupils from Humansdorp Senior Secondary were rushed to the Livingstone Hospital, in a critical condition, after they had been allegedly attacked by a group of suspects.
The police crews were called to attend the scene immediately after the violent assault had erupted. There was no official report released by the authorities explaining why the pupils had been attacked. However, the investigators believe the possible reason for the attack was related to a local gang activity.
It is alleged that the group of assailants, aged between 14 and 18, chose those four students as their targets just for not being members of the gang.
The police detained four suspects after the attack and opened an inquest docket into the matter. Nevertheless, the lack of any evidence made the detectives release the detained four.
Four cases of assault with an intent to cause grievous bodily harm have been opened.
