Today, the SAPS Men Mobilisation awareness Campaign against gender based violence (GBV) gathered thousands men in blue in Pretoria. They marched to stop the crimes committed against women, children and other vulnerable groups.
The participants, including Police Minister General Bheki Cele, Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale and the SAPS senior management, gathered in Pretoria Church Square and marched to Jubilee Park via Leyds Street and Kotze Street.
During a stop at the Sunnyside Police Station, Cele checked how the GBV victims were treated at the police stations and explained how to report a case of GBV urging the citizens to get more involved in reporting such crimes within their communities.
“The awareness campaign led by the men in blue seeks to raise awareness on the scourge of violence with a view of mobilising society to play an active role in assisting the work of the Police in detecting, preventing and fighting Gender-Based Violence within communities,” the SAPS statement described the event.
