A flight from Vryburg to Pretoria became the last one for a 30-year-old pilot. His light Piper aircraft crashed in Huhudi near Vryburg in the North West on Sunday.
According to police spokesperson Captain Sam Tselanyane, the plane first hit a garage door and then crashed between two houses at Isaac Peloeng Street. The pilot was declared dead on the scene, his passenger was hospitalised with serious injuries. Fortunately, nobody was injured on the ground.
“The families of the two affected residences were advised to vacate their houses for safety reasons pending removal of the wreckage,” Tselanyane added.
The Vryburg police have opened a case of culpable homicide. The Civil Aviation Authority is also probing the incident trying to determine what exactly caused the crash.
