Delft residents, in Cape Town, are concerned that crime, gang violence and murders still prevail even with the deployment of the South African Defence Force (SANDF).
They are now calling for a greater focus on young people engaging in crime in the area.
The neighbourhood’s CPF chairperson, Charles George, said the youth in the area who are involved in crime needed to be rehabilitated.
“We need to deal with smaller crimes involving youth, who are drinking or throwing stones,” said George.
According crime statistics released on Thursday 247 people were murdered in the community, which is 52 more than in the 2017/18 financial year.
The statistics showed that Nyanga had a high number of murders, followed by Delft and Khayelitsha.
