Pupils from Roseville Secondary School, in KwaZulu-Natal, missed exams and forced the school to shut down after demanding a designated smoking area on the school grounds.
The KZN Education Department warned the pupils from the school against staying away from school after the protest.
Spokesperson Kwazi Mthethwa said they would not allow any of the pupils’ demands.
“We will not allow this in our schools. It was never going to happen and we’re happy that teaching has resumed,” he said.
