Court should decide KCM fate — Zambian government

The government of Zambia has shifted the decision over the Konkola Copper Mines’ (KCM) fate to the court, stating that it was a subject of the relevant process.

According to Mines and Minerals Development Minister Richard Musukwa, the authorities will not interrupt the course of the trial but are always ready for progressive talks to assure a peaceful leave for Vedanta.

While speaking at the side-lines of the presidential visit to India, Musukwa stated the decision to liquidate the shaft’s current owner had been premised on protecting the jobs of the people as Vedanta itself had been on the edge of collapse.

The government will secure a credible investor for the KCM in an open and transparent manner once the process ends, the minister further noted.
