The president of the Economics Association of Zambia, Lubinda Haabazoka, believes the Zambian government should take over some mines without compensation.
According to Dr Haabazoka the nationalization of the country’s mining assets can result in economic freedom.
The Zambian government is currently in a court dispute with Vedanta Resources after it attempted to seize the Konkola Copper Mines.
Dr Haabazoka said most of the foreign mining organisations had no compassion for the people.
He mentioned the main reason for the mines’ nationalizing was tax cheating by the foreign owners.
