Employees barely escape after car crashes into Durban shop

One employee of Tekweni Meats was rushed to hospital after a car had collided with the storefront in Joe Slovo (Field) Street yesterday.

“He claims he had pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. He claimed he spun around on impact. The momentum steered the car over the pavement and into the shop. A staff member who was seated behind the cash counter was injured,” the Tekweni Meats store manager explained.

The storefront glass, counters and accessories in the store were destroyed on impact. Everything was caught on the store’s CCTV cameras.

The video shows the car suddenly driving in front of a parked minibus and then going straight ahead, slamming into the storefront.

One of the staff members succeeded in jumping to safety just before the crash.
