The Samfya Subordinate Court has sentenced a 19-year-old teen to four months hard labour imprisonment for trafficking in the narcotic substances.
Paul Kabwe was arrested by the Samfya district DEC Officers on June 14 during an operation in Chifunabuli after a search which had revealed 18.4 grams of vegetable leaves in Kabwe’s pocket.
The test results were positive confirming it to be marijuana, a herbal product of cannabis.
In justification, Kabwe pleaded for mercy saying he was a family man taking care of his mother and that he regretted his actions.
In passing judgment, Magistrate Likulunga stated he was lenient on the defendant by sentencing him only to 4 months imprisonment with hard labour when this offence usually carried the maximum of 15 years for the first offender.
