A 35-year-old police man from Belfast was arrested yesterday on charges of corruption and will appear Belfast Magistrate’s Court today.
This brings the number to seven suspects who where arrested last week for corruption.
Three suspects, Khethiwe Mkhabela, 42; Lucky Mabena, 37 – both traffic officials; and David Mahlare Ntuli, 34 – a police officer, appeared before the Komatipoort Magistrate Court the same day for corruption.
They were granted R1,000 bail each.
It is alleged that in April, the suspects solicited bribes from the motorists along the N4 road between Komatipoort and Middleburg.
Hawks Mpumalanga spokesperson Dineo Sekgotodi said: “It was established during a two month investigation that the suspects were operating with impunity, demanding bribes from unsuspecting tourists, failure of which, they would be arrested.”
