Two men accused of stealing cattle worth R300,000 will appear in the Biesiesvlei Periodical Court on Friday.
The pair was arrested following the theft of at least 25 cattle from a farm almost 20km from Biesiesvlei.
Police spokesperson Captain Aafie Botma said, the suspects Adriaan Human (51) an entrepreneur, and George Ketshabang (51) are expected to apply for bail.
“The accused were remanded in custody after appearing in the Lichtenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday May 20, on charges of theft and possession of suspected stolen stock. The duo was taken into custody in the early hours of Thursday, May 16,” Botma stated.
It is alleged that, after stealing the cattle, they drove them to a communal farm near Biesiesvlei.
“It was at the farm that workers became suspicious and alerted the police who responded swiftly to the tip-off.”
The two suspects managed to run away, evading arrest. However, Adriaan Human, who was found loading some of the stolen cattle into his truck, was arrested together with George Ketshabang soon afterwards.
“All suspected stolen cattle valued at R300,000 were recovered and a truck was seized. The cattle were handed back to the lawful owner,” Botma added.
