The Zambian government has been discussing a new legislative initiative that can seriously reduce the nursing tuition fees in all country’s public medical institutions.

The move was made as some of the universities were inflating the fees, making it impossible for residents to take the nursing courses.

Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya said, if the reduction is implemented, the fees will be standardised and will be equal to K8,500 per year for all student nurses.

The national Ministry of Health has started a series of consultative meetings aimed at getting various stakeholders’ opinions on the matter and responding to unions and the general public concerns.
