A 56-year-old man who allegedly defrauded power utility Eskom out of more than a million rand has handed himself to police.
According to Hawks statement, Michael Chimanzi appeared in one of the departments in the Mpumalanga province on Thursday morning, after he had heard about the ongoing investigation process.
“He told the investigating officer that he saw on television that he is needed. He came with his lawyer,” Hawks spokesperson Capt Dineo Sekgotodi said.
The resident allegedly committed his crimes in the 2013-2014 period, appropriating Eskom’s approximately R1,3 millions by sending forged invoices which the organisation paid.
Chimanzi will expectedly appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court in the next few days.
