Zambian MP Chishimba Kambwili has been facing charges over his hateful claims that foreigners stole the jobs reserved for true country residents.
The 49-year-old politic, who is considered to be one of the President Lungu critics, was caught on camera saying odious words in relation to an ethnic Indian worker. The clip showing him yelling during the incident and pointing his finger at the labourer soon became viral on the web and resulted in all-out investigation.
“Police in Lusaka have arrested and charged Chishimba Kambwili with expression or showing hatred, ridicule or contempt for persons because of race, tribe or place of origin,” police spokesperson Esther Katongo said in a statement.
The MP has already appeared in court but not received any bail. If the trial finds him guilty, Kambwili can be sentenced to two years in jail.
