South Africa creates and uses 1.5 million tonnes of plastic annually. Only 21% is recycled. A new technology has been created to change these sad statistics.
The Eco Arena CEO Don Thompson aims to take the plastic waste that nobody needs and transform it into a valuable asset creating thousands of jobs in the process.
The company found a way to grind up any type of plastic, mix it with other materials and use the sandlike substance to create durable cement that can be used in the construction industry.
“It’s a very good end of life for plastic that typically was not going to get recycled,” Thompson stated.
