An estimated 24 500 South African Social Services Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries could forfeit their April payments.
Sassa has warned those who have not yet swapped their old white cards for the new gold ones must do so immediately, or they could lose this month’s grant payment.
“In Gauteng only, a total of about 24 506 social grants belonging to beneficiaries, who did not swap to the new Sassa card, were suspended,” said Sassa’s Gauteng spokesperson Nandi Mosia.
Those affected should go to their nearest Sassa offices to swap their cards to have their grants restored.
Beneficiaries are advised to bring their identity documents and their old grant card. “Those who are very old or too sick to visit our offices must call Sassa offices nearer to them to arrange for a home visit,” added Mosia.
All beneficiaries receiving their grants in other points of sales, like banks, and wish to return their cards can also visit the Sassa offices.
