Two men from a group of protesters in the Overberg town of Caledon received fatal gunshots when the protest outraged.
The residents gathered on Thursday to demand additional service delivery privileges, raising issues of housing and sanitation.
During the action, two of them were shot dead by an unknown gunner, one demonstrator also left the scene with serious injuries. The details behind the incident remain sketchy while the police continue the investigation.
According to the reports, on Friday morning the residents woke up in a cloud of tear gas as law enforcement units decided to use it in order to calm the situation following the previous violence. In addition, officers are not allowing people to proceed to the main road.
