President Cyril Ramaphosa announced Kieswetter as the new commissioner of the South African Revenue Service.
The panel assembled to interview the potential candidates approved Kieswetter candidature.
The new commissioner has six degrees including a masters in commerce. He returns to the organisation after working in the private financial sector for the past decade.
Before being employed by SARS in 2004 Kieswetter served under Pravin Godhan. He also held the position of a senior manager at Eskom and later a senior executive in the FirstRand bank group.
Before coming back to the organisation, he had been working as a Group Chief Executive in the Alexander Forbes Group Holdings from 2010 to 2016.
After Kieswetter had been announced as the new commissioner of SARS, the Economic Freedom Fighters started searching for legal options of reversing the decision.
According to the EFF, the interviews of the candidates were secret and there was no transparency in the decision of the panel.
