The State decided to drop one of the culpable homicide charges against Duduzane Zuma who had been involved in a deadly 2016 crash.
Former President Jacob Zuma’s son previously faced two culpable homicide counts linked to the deaths of Phumzile Dube and Nanki Mashaba. Dube was the first victim to die after Duduzane’s Porsche crashed into a minibus taxi on the M1 in Johannesburg. Mashaba — she was also a passenger of the taxi — passed away in hospital several weeks after the fatal incident.
The Randburg Magistrates’ Court started the trial on Tuesday and immediately received the information about the withdrawal of the second charge related to Mashaba. It was established that she had a pre-existing condition that caused her death in hospital.
The trial has been set down for four days.
