At least 128,000 people remain in makeshift camps after a deadly cyclone in Mozambique. As the Land and Environment Minister Celso Correia said, the death toll remained roughly unchanged at 447.
“The loss of lives remains the same as yesterday. The number of people saved in INGC (National Institute of Disaster Management) camps has increased to 128,000,” Correia said.
Cyclone Idai devastated the Mozambican port city of Beira. Heavy winds of up to 170km/h and flood then moved inland to Zimbabwe and Malawi.
The disaster destroyed buildings and took the lives of at least 656 people across the countries.
