South African political parties participating in the 2019 general elections are signing the IEC’s Code of Conduct on Wednesday. During the event the draw for positions on the ballot paper is also to be held.
The contesting political parties have to publicly commit to upholding the provisions and the purpose of the Electoral Act. The ceremony is being held in compliance with these requirements.
Last month, the Electoral Commission (IEC) welcomed the current president Cyril Ramaphosa’s proclamation of the 2019 National and Provincial Elections. It was decided that the event would take place on May 8, 2019.
