A Sans Souci Girls’ High School teacher has been allowed to continue her work in the institution one and a half months after she had slapped a Grade 8 learner. According to the reports, the teacher is expected on her post at the start of the second term, on April 2.
The School Governing Body (SGB) has decided to give Clarisa Venter a fine and a warning, while the teacher herself still has to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on assault charges landed by the girl’s mother.
The teacher was caught on camera slapping the pupil as the teenager brought a cellphone to class, violating the school’s code of conduct. The next day, both of them were suspended following the internal investigation.
The learner’s family decided to remove the child from the school. The 16-year-old girl is also expected back in court to face an assault charge brought by the teacher.
