Cyclone Idai continues to outrage in Mozambique, bringing death and destruction to two flood-prone provinces. According to the last reports, the powerful tropical cyclone has already killed 10 people from local communities while consistent heavy rains and floods have affected over 62 thousand residents.
By the end of Monday, Idai’s intensity was equal to that of a Category 3 hurricane. However, it’s expected only to strengthen as the whole system tracks away from Madagascar and will reportedly strike central parts of Mozambique with all its fury on Friday.
“The system is moving towards the coastal region of Sofala and Zambézia provinces which may reach tropical cyclone stage influencing the weather conditions from March 13, 2019,” the national weather centre warned.
Authorities also said that at least 120 000 people were at risk of flooding in the coming days.
