The Zondo commission has resumed its state capture inquiry with testimonies from several ESKOM employees. According to the reports, labourers Gert Opperman and Johan Bester will take the stand to testify.
Previously, the commission, chaired by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, probed into power utility’s connections with Gupta linked companies, especially, with Optimum Coal — the holding that the controversial family bought from mining giant Glencor in late 2015.
On Friday, Opperman admitted to the inquiry that it seemed like Eskom’s interaction with Optimum coal under Tegeta was different. It differed from the power utility’s interaction with the same mine while it was owned by Glencore.
