Two ANC’s spokesmen — Zizi Kodwa and Pule Mabe — decided to step down from officially speaking on behalf of the party until the scandals over their gender-based violence cases would be resolved. The decision was confirmed by the ANC’s secretary-general Ace Magashule on Tuesday.
“The ANC has therefore accepted their request to voluntarily step aside while dealing with the matters,” Magashule said.
Besides speaking, both Kodwa and Mabe continue to perform their duties as the members of the ANC’s national working committee (NWC).
Zizi Kodwa who was appointed last month as the NWC’s acting spokesperson has been accused of rape by a local woman — she claimed that the official forced her into sexual intercourse after several drinks. Spokesperson Pule Mabe was also accused of sexual harassment by his personal assistant, however, he was later cleared by the party.
