R1.5bn smartphone factory opens in South Africa

The north of Durban will soon see the opening of a brand-new smartphone factory.

Mara Group has recently shed some light on a R1.5bn project supported by the African Development Bank that is set to create around 500 jobs.

The report on the company’s website reads it will produce the first affordable made-in-Africa phones.

“This project will show the potential and ability that Africa can produce high quality and affordable smartphones in Africa, by Africans, for Africans and for the rest of the world. We are extremely grateful for the African Development Bank’s push in this sector.”
