The Willowvale Regional Magistrate’s Court sentenced a local to 18 years in prison for the rape he committed.
According to the reports, the villager, 43, attacked a 52-year-old woman as she was on her way home from the traditional ceremony on July 4 last year. The rapist caught his prey in an open field amid the night, assuring that no one followed her.
Nevertheless, the perpetrator was interrupted by another passerby.
“The victim was rescued by another woman. The accused ran for his dear life. Both women identified the accused as he is a local man,” police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said.
The police welcomed the judge’s decision, advising other residents to avoid any similar night walkabout.
