Energy Minister Jeff Radebe said that South Africa needed to invest in new electricity generation capacity and instill confidence in its ability to generate power. The Minister made a statement on Tuesday at an energy conference in Johannesburg.
The South African state-owned energy company Eskom was recently forced to implement the worst planned load shedding in years. South African Energy Minister Jeff Radebe described the situation as “untenable”.
Today, the South African power utility confirmed that generating capacity had noticeably improved since last week. The company says that outages have had a major impact on its plants’ performance.
