Durban rescue services have found the bodies of six fishermen on Friday morning. According to the reports, all of the victims were aboard a fisher vessel caught on fire in the Durban Harbour, near the end of Belfast Road.
Firefighters arrived on the scene on Thursday, when the blaze had just started. Throughout the night they were putting efforts in order to extinguish the flames.
The fishermen were discovered today at around 2 am. Before that specialists had managed to rescue three other people from the burning vessel.
“Three men were treated on scene and transported through to hospital [on Thursday] yesterday afternoon by Rescue Care Paramedics,” Rescue Care spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said. The patients’ condition, however, remains unknown as well as the cause of the fire.
Jamieson also added that SAPS has been investigating the circumstances behind the case.
