The Hawks have performed a joint operation together with officials from the SA Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in order to nab the criminals, who were reportedly involved in the illegal abalone trading.
The squads discovered a drying facility during a patrol in Durbanville, the Western Cape, with a big abalone party inside, that was valued at R3.1 million.
“Several drying equipment used to process abalone were seized along with the wet abalone, as well as dried one and processed abalone,” Hawks spokesperson Philani Nkwalase said.
In addition, two suspects were arrested in relation to the case. The police continue to investigate the matter.
