Health Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi was disappointed by the news that intern and community service doctors have not received their well-deserved salaries yet.
Such incidents continue to occur in several republican hospitals, including clinics in Gauteng and other provinces. According to the reports, the new medical staff that was hired last month, have not received their first payments and later started to raise awareness over the issue through social media.
“The 7th of February is a week after they should have been paid. Being paid a week later than expected is by itself not acceptable. It is very difficult for the Ministry to fathom what difficulty could managers encounter that would lead to non-payment of a salary,” Motsoaledi said in a statement.
The problems have been in a resolution stage for a couple of weeks, however, no outcome has been reached yet.
“It is for these reasons that it is puzzling and extremely distressing for something like a payment of a salary to suddenly become a big problem. It was further disconcerting to learn that even a promise to fix whatever administrative glitch that may have occurred, [there were] still… problems… by 7th of February,” the Minister said.
