Traffic jams under thundershowers, heavy delays and postpones are the problems the city of Johannesburg and its residents have been facing since Tuesday morning. Most of these issues was apparently a result of load shedding performed by Eskom.
Due to unstable grid working the traffic lights across the city turned off resulting in numerous gridlocks, Tshwane Metro Police Department spokesperson Isaac Mahamba said.
“Normally, in all the main roads we deploy our officers if the lights are not working. There were a few accidents that I know of,” he added.
In addition to the traffic congestion, rains fell on the city, leading to even slower vehicle movement.
Besides Johannesburg, the same happened in Pretoria, but to a lesser extent. The weather conditions that were noticeably better than in Johannesburg played an important role in the fast restoration of the traffic.
