On February 11, the Basic Education Department Minister, Angie Motshekga, announced that South Africa will host the Africa Play Conference. The event will be held from February 25 to February 27, 2019.
The first Africa Play conference will look at how learning through play can improve the quality of children’s development and give impetus to the education system.
According to the South African government press office, classroom will become a space where pupils can combine fun and learning in the near future. The state has been closely involved in improving the educational system after the president’s statement. Ramaphosa said that Early Childhood Education (ECD) centres will be transferred from the Department of Social Development to the Department of Basic Education
According to UNICEF South Africa representative Sanjay Wijesekera, placing a play at the core of learning will help pupils to receive the necessary skills for future work.
