South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the creation of a new special unit that will focus on the fight against corruption.
During his SONA address, Ramaphosa noted that today there was a need to create a department within the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The President has announced it ten years after the Scorpions were disbanded.
It is assumed that the new division will highlight key corruption cases for the investigation and be engaged in the restoration of assets obtained through corruption.
Cyril Ramaphosa has already met with the newly appointed head of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Shamila Batohi, and expressed concern over the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into the state capture intermediate results.
