South African President Cyril Ramaphosa instructed the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate corruption charges at the Moretele local municipality in the North West province.
Cyril Ramaphosa pointed out that SIU would investigate the misappropriation or spending of public money.
As it has been previously reported, the municipality violated the National Treasury regulations and redistributed R50 million of the grant intended for the water infrastructure in 2017/18 budget to invest in the liquidated VBS Mutual Bank.
Previously, in connection with this case in the North-West, the African National Congress (ANC) has suspended seven mayors, including Moretele mayor Andries Monaheng.
All of them are reported to have invested money from the municipal budget in the notorious VBS.
