Spirit the dog, injured in the abuse, has recovered with the help of Lexi Austen, the All Hearts Foundation South Africa chief and founder.
In the fall of 2016, two men discovered the injured dog with legs tied and wounded in a river in the Farmall area. As it turned out, the animal was drowning, however, the fellas have rescued the dog from the river and took it to the Blue Bush Animal Clinic in Randburg.
The dog was later called Spirit because it managed to survive.
The dog had an injured front left paw, however, thanks to the Lexi Austen efforts, it was cured.
“Spirit was exhausted, hypothermic and, apart from his wounded legs, had inhaled water. But eventually he recovered, and all that’s left now is a scar,” a veterinarian said.
