The Wits University administration has taken additional security measures in connection with the student protests that may interfere with the studies.
On Monday, February 4, fifty protesters went on strike. They demanded that students who qualified for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme were able to register.
What is more, the protests are taking place at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Mangosuthu and Durban University of Technology.
According to Wits spokesperson Shirona Patel, about thirty students have announced a sit-down strike on Tuesday, February 5.
As Higher Education Minister Naledi Pandor said, such temporary interruptions in the higher educational institutions’ learning process are of concern to the Education Department.
