Tuesday, February 5, marks three years since the lamp room collapsed in the Lily Mine in Mpumalanga leaving Pretty Nkambule, Solomon Nyirenda and Yvonne Mnisi trapped. The container with the three miners remains underground.

According to the South African Department of Mineral Resources, the government is making all the necessary efforts so that the new Lily Mine owners can resume their activities and find the container.

According to the department spokesman, the efforts to reach the container are crucial for the families.

Last year, Mineral Resources Deputy Minister Godfrey Oliphant stated the families of mineworkers were provided with R200,000 in addition to other payments already received by the family members.
